Your DJ brief

Research Project Brief: DJing and Turntablism

The task:

To create a leaflet or powerpoint presentation about the history and development of DJing, to serve as an introduction to your practical work on DJ skills. You will need to conduct research on the internet and in library books to discover how DJing originated, and how it has developed and been used in different genres of music.

Assessment focus: Learning Objective 2.1: Understand the development of a form of performance over a
                                                                                        specified period of time

In order to gain marks, you should...

-          Provide a detailed overview of what DJing is, including the equipment used, names of techniques involved and styles of music in which it plays a part
-          Conduct research into the origins of DJing (also known as ‘turntablism’) as part of Hip Hop culture, including a detailed explanation of how some techniques were invented and how it became popular.
-          Discuss the factors which influenced the development of DJing in different musical genres and venues. For example...          - the creation of MTV
- the Ibiza clubdance scene
- the invention of digital music and turntables
